Douglas Machine receives Patriot Awards

The honor was presented through the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve.

Douglas Machine in Alexandria recently received Patriot Awards for supporting a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard.

On Nov. 2, Staff Sergeant Jeremy Jasmer, a Minnesota Army National Guard service member and mechanical designer at Douglas Machine, presented Jason Stich, director of shrink wrap products, and Rod Tebben, engineering manager, with the awards.

Jasmer recently completed a last-minute year-long deployment to the Horn of Africa.

“During difficult times with COVID, I was given a 10-week notice that I would be leaving for a year,” Jasmer said. “Rod and Jason not only ensured that my projects were taken care of pre-deployment but also offered to support my wife if anything was needed in my absence. During my reintegration back to civilian work and life they have been very supportive as well, helping me transition. Knowing that my supervisors at Douglas were supportive of my mission greatly helped me and my family get through the Deployment.”

An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
