Central Lakes Search and Rescue of Central Minnesota announced it has been awarded a $2,500 grant investment from the Petco Foundation to support its efforts in training mission tested and ready K-9 teams for search and rescue efforts.

The Petco Foundation investment will help to purchase updated technology that CLSAR uses to assist in tracking canines during searches, and to mark areas of interest which allows law enforcement to return to marked areas for further searching and investigation.

CLSAR will be applying the grant to update the Global Positioning System units utilized by the members of the unit.

“Most of the current GPS units currently used by CLSAR are over 10 years old," said Roberta Pugh, CLSAR president. "Being able to purchase newer GPS units provides for more accurate data, faster connections, and volunteer members do not have to stretch their own dollars to purchase units."

Investments are made possible through the Petco Foundation’s annual Helping Heroes campaign, which takes place each October in Petco locations nationwide to support the work of service, therapy and working animals.
