Jeff Meland of Databae Systems in Alexandria will be the guest speaker at the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce's Noontime Knowledge luncheon on Monday, Oct. 21, from noon-1 p.m. at Broadway Ballroom. Cost is $10, which includes lunch. No RSVP is required; pay at the door.

Bitcoin is one of those “cyber” terms. Meland will teach attendees about this option that allows people to send or receive money across the internet, even to mysterious people.

Meland worked as a computer programmer/analyst for the University of North Dakota for 15 years before moving to North Carolina to work as a software developer for Medic Computer Systems. In 1999 he moved to Alexandria with his wife, Susan, and son, Paul. In 2001 Jeff started working on websites and internet-related projects.

Over the past 15 years, Meland has been building websites and has been heavily involved with online marketing. In August, he passed the Certified Bitcoin Professional exam issued by the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium, which established cryptocurrency standards.

Noontime Knowledge is sponsored by Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union. The luncheons are the third Monday of each month. For more information, call the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce at 320-763-3161 or email info@alexandriamn.org.
