• Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton recently appointed Erica Sawatzke of Farwell to an open livestock producer position on the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. Sawatzke owns a sixth-generation turkey breeder farm with her husband. She previously worked for the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association on their communications team. Her appointment was effective Sept. 15 and will expire Jan. 3, 2022.
• The Alexandria Sertoma Club has honored Chad Meyer as its Sertoman of the Year. Meyer, a past club president, has remained active, cleaning ditches, coordinating fundraisers and serving at the club's food both at Art in the Park. He also coaches bowling and helps other groups with their fundraisers, including Ole Oppe Fest and the museum's annual steak fry fundraiser.
• The Alexandria Golf Club has hired Lindsay Fluegel as general manager starting Nov. 1. Fluegel will provide day-to-day overall management and serve as the club's representative. She will be responsible for overall club activities, events and membership relations and recruitment. Fluegel had been a trainer with Farmer's Insurance, the general operations manager at The Campus Club at the University of Minnesota and a restaurant manager. She graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in merchandising and production. She also holds a bachelor's degree in art history from the University of Minnesota.
