The local office of the federal agency that connects farmers with financial support will likely get a new director in late summer or fall.

The Farm Service Agency’s Douglas County office was headed by Steve Frerick until December, when he moved to the Stearns County office. Since then, Laurie Aaberg has run both Pope and Douglas county offices.

However, Aaberg is set to retire April 9 and at that point, Scott Newberg will run the Douglas County office along with the Kandiyohi County office. That’s also a temporary move, as eventually the agency will hire someone to run the Douglas and Pope county offices together.

Seven people are training for county executive director positions now in Minnesota, Aaberg said.

Business should continue as usual for farmers, she said. “The producers shouldn’t notice anything different.”
