Strike up the lanes!
Lakeview Lanes in Osakis has a new name — The Bowling Barn & Grill — and new owners, Bryan and Tonya Danielson.
The Danielsons' request for an on-sale liquor license was approved earlier this summer by the Osakis City Council at a special meeting, which drew a standing-room-only crowd of supporters.
"The vote was unanimous," noted Tonya Danielson. "And we needed to have the liquor license. Otherwise we wouldn't have purchased the building."
If all goes well, the Danielsons' goal is to open the business on Nov. 1.
The Danielsons have big plans for the bowling alley. They plan to give the building a new look both inside and out.
"From top to bottom, it will be a whole new venue," Tonya said. She added about the only thing that will stay the same will be the lanes, pins and computer scoring system, which are all fairly new.
The biggest improvement will be a new kitchen and full bar.
The old bowling alley only served microwavable sandwiches and pizza.
"The kitchen will have a full menu that will be different than what is already offered in town," said Tonya.
The Danielsons also plan to bring back bowling leagues — something bowlers in Long Prairie and Osakis have been wanting for some time, Tonya said.
The Bowling Barn & Grill will also be accommodating to senior citizens and disability groups, she added.
Birthday parties will also be offered.
"A mom will be able to call us and say that she wants to have a birthday party for her son and nine other kids with a Spider Man theme," Tonya said. "She'll be able to sit back, take pictures and relax, and let us do the birthday party planning."
The Danielsons, who live in Long Prairie right now, plan to move to Osakis soon. They heard about the bowling alley opportunity when Justin Dahlheimer from First National Bank, who knew they liked "flipping" properties, told them the building was for sale.
Tonya said she liked the idea of reviving a business that would appeal to all ages and give families something to do.
"I talked myself into it and everything just fell in place," she said.
The Danielsons plan to provide remodeling updates on their Facebook page, The Bowling Barn & Grill. Those interested in scheduling a party or joining a league may call Tonya at 320-247-2339.
