Basketball roundup: Osakis girls hold LPGE to eight points

The Osakis girls held Long Prairie-Grey Eagle to eight points on Friday, while the B-E boys took Hillcrest to overtime and the Osakis boys ran into a tough Albany team.

The Osakis girls basketball team shut down Long Prairie-Grey Eagle’s offense in a game on Friday, in what was a 50-8 win for Osakis.

Osakis led 29-2 at halftime and improved to 8-7 with a 50-8 win on the road.

“The girls played a complete game on both ends of the court,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “We played good defense while limiting our fouls which was good to see. Offensively we moved the ball well and took good shots. This was a good team effort to earn this win.”

Osakis forced 25 turnovers in the game. Bella Weisser had five steals and five deflections. Taylor Dirkes had a game-high 18 points, and she also had seven deflections. Kiley Kranz had 10 points and nine rebounds in the win.

Osakis hosts Staples-Motley at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hillcrest outlasts B-E boys in OT

The Brandon-Evansville boys basketball pushed one of the top teams in Section 6A on Friday as it took Hillcrest Lutheran Academy to overtime.

Hillcrest pulled out the 56-54 win in overtime.

“I'm proud of this team, and our hard work to improve,” B-E head coach Trent Hintermeister said. “It's one thing to say it day in and day out; it's another to prove it. Every player in our program is buying into improving, and it's so much fun to be a part of. Hillcrest is a fantastic team and very well-coached. They deserve a lot of credit for winning the game, and I don't think we did anything to give them this win.”

B-E is now 4-10 on the season, while Hillcrest Lutheran Academy is 11-2.

The Chargers hit the road to face Browerville-Eagle Valley on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Osakis hit the road to face the Albany Huskies on Friday who are the No. 7 ranked team in Class AA by the Minnesota Basketball News poll.

Albany earned a 63-43 win and improved to 13-1 while Osakis dropped to 10-4.

Kyle Mages led the Silverstreaks offense with 12 points, while Stewart Jones added 11 and Grant Mages added 10.

Albany limited Osakis to 1-of-12 shooting from beyond the three-point line.

Osakis aims to bounce back on Tuesday on the road at Holdingford at 7:15 p.m.
