The Alexandria boys hockey team (3-3-1) salvaged a tie in the final game before Christmas as the Cardinals went to St. Cloud and fought to a 2-2 final on Dec. 23.
St. Cloud (3-4-2) led 2-1 in the third period after Andrew Cumming scored twice, including at 7:51 of the third to break the tie.
Alexandria’s Leo Kompelien scored in the first period on the power play for the Cardinals off Josiah Gronholz and Pieter Mulder assists. Gronholz then scored the equalizer with less than six minutes remaining to send the game to overtime.
The Crush outshot Alexandria 38-22, but Teagan Pfeffer had 36 saves for the Cardinals. Hank Bulson turned aside 20 shots for St. Cloud.
Alexandria is off until Dec. 29 when it goes on the road to face Gentry Academy at 7 p.m. at the Aldrich Ice Arena in Maplewood.

The Stars, playing out of Section 4AA this season, are 6-1 and ranked fourth among 70 Class AA teams through the QRF on Minnesota-scores.net. Gentry Academy went 19-0 and won the Class A state title last winter, winning the championship game over Dodge County by an 8-1 score.
