The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville boys cross country team keeps winning. On Friday night at the Bertha-Hewitt Invite, the boys beat the host school and Wadena-Deer Creek behind two stellar finishes.
Hunter Norby hasn’t chased many opponents this year, but this time he came in third. While he finished his run in 18:45, his teammate, Micah Fossell, wasn’t too far behind. Fossell took fourth with a time of 18:51.
Wes Siira finished in sixth (19:08) with Logan Froemming (19:12) and Jayden Hoidahl (19:40) coming in ninth and 10th. Matson Hoff (19:42), Jaden Norby (20:00) and Jacob Cook (21:13) rounded out the group.
“Micah and Logan have both had goals of breaking the 19-minute mark this season,” head coach Robert Bosma said. “Micah succeeded, and Logan was very close. We should see them continue to improve in the next couple of weeks. With the season getting close to the end, it’s good to see how the team is still improving. They haven’t peaked yet.”
The girls squad took second place behind W-DC. Lucea Wales keeps turning in good races – this time, she came in eighth place (23:34). Hannah Korkowski was two spots behind with a time of 24:17. Gretchen Bredberg’s 25:02 time was good enough for 12th place, while Courtney Brethorst and Cailey Schlosser came in 16th (26:26) and 17th (26:44). Catherine Koefod and Kaytlyn Pattrin clocked in under 30 minutes in 19th (29:03) and 20th (29:40).

“Hannah Korkowski ran a great race with her eyes on Lucea the majority of the race,” Bosma said. “For only being a seventh-grader, her competitiveness really makes a difference in how she runs. Lucea also ran great as she was pushed for most of the race. She fell into a pack with some other girls, which really pushed her to run great.”
