Prairie Wind Players to hold auditions for 'The Glass Menagerie'

The Prairie Wind Community Theatre will hold auditions for Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie on Saturday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, September 9 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Roosevelt Hall in Barrett.

Come with a short prepared piece. Parts of the script will also be read.

In The Glass Menagerie, Amanda Wingfield is a faded, tragic remnant of Southern gentility who lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura.

Tom is driven nearly to distraction by his mother's nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the world of the movies. Laura is crippled, and this defect, intensified by her mother's anxiety to see her married, has driven her more and more into herself.

When Tom invites a young man of his acquaintance to have dinner with the family, Amanda immediately pounces on him as a possible husband for Laura. However, he's already engaged.

Production dates are November 21-24 at Prairie Wind Players. Rehearsals will begin in September and will take a two-week reprieve from October 9-21, picking up again after that.

If unable to make one of the auditions, call director Twig Webster at (320) 287-2423 to arrange another time slot.
