The Forada City Council set a proposed tax levy of $162,024 for 2016 — a 7.5 percent increase from the 2015 levy of $154,013. Most of the increase is for street maintenance, mowing, sewer capital/maintenance, Internet service added to city hall and council wage increases. The increase also allows for extra expenses associated with staffing for the election, which occurs only on election years. All cities must certify their final levy to the county auditor by December 28. Councils can only vote to keep their levy the same or decrease it from the preliminary agreed upon numbers.
