The blizzard that wasn't left Hubbard County wind, but little snow. "You're not alone," laughed National Weather Service meteorologist Al Voelker. "From right around Sioux Falls into eastern Nebraska and Kansas we had a huge system of thunderstorms and those storms took a lot of moisture from the (your) system. The precipitation band, instead of being widespread, was more confined to a smaller area around the surface low.
Two Dassel motorcyclists were taken to the Detroit Lakes hospital after they collided with a deer in Becker County Monday noon. According to the Becker County Sheriff's Department, the unnamed man and woman struck the deer on Becker County 39, about two miles north of Highway 34 near Ponsford. The 47-year-old male driver and 49-year-old female passenger "sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals, the Becker County Sheriffs Department said in a news release. The woman was airlifted to Essentia in Fargo.
Two officers proved how essential they were when a Fish Hook Lake resident suffered a heart attack Saturday evening in the water. State Trooper Nick Tabbert and Park Rapids police officer Justin Frette performed CPR on the man, saving his life. He was identified as 79-year-old Walter "Jim" Kimble. According to Hubbard County Chief Deputy Scott Parks, family members pulled Kimble from the water.
Ice and sand trucks are out on Hubbard County roadways, but slow travel, if you have to, is advised. Many travelers have advised the Enterprise that road conditions are "awful." Speed limits of 30 mph were the norm on most county highways early Thursday morning. Fog complicated visibility. Numerous accidents have been reported already with vehicles sliding off icy highways.
A Floodwood woman has been identified as the victim of a one-vehicle rollover in northern Hubbard County early Saturday. Brooke Rosemore, 28, died at the scene.
One person was airlifted to an unknown hospital Thursday following a two-vehicle accident outside of Nevis. Two others were taken by ground ambulance to St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids with lacerations. One was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash. She was initially unconscious. The crash occurred just before 4 p.m.
