The Osakis Silverstreaks are making the most of their debut State Class A baseball appearance, cruising past Blackduck 10-0 in five innings in the opening round at the Mini Met in Jordan Thursday afternoon. The Silverstreaks took advantage of 10 walks by the Drake pitchers in the game, and added six hits as well as taking advantage of two Blackduck errors. Jordan Frederick got the win as he scattered just three hits, striking out five and walking in his four innings on the mound.
Osakis ran in to a buzz saw its opening match at the State Class A team tennis tournament this morning, falling to Waseca 7-0. The Silverstreaks drop into the consolation bracket and will play Staples-Motley at 4 p.m. today at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis. Waseca was ranked No. 3 in the final State Class A polls. Staples-Motley lost to The Blake School by a score of 7-0. Patricia "Pat" Louise Miller, 75, Sauk Centre, died at St. Michael's Hospital on April 12, 2008, after a four-year battle with cancer. Pat was born in Stearns County on August 12, 1932 to Edward and Regine (Dueker) Marthaler. Pat grew up on a farm near Westport with her parents and two brothers. Pat graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1950. On April 15, 1952, she married Don-ald Vincent Miller at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Pat worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime. As a teenager, she worked summers in Waterloo, Iowa as a hospital dietary aide.
Carol Schultz, 82, Alexandria, left her earthly home on Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Carol Margie Johnson was born on October 10, 1925 in West Union Township to Ole and Freda (Johnson) Johnson. After schooling and a year doing factory work during WWII, Carol was united in marriage to Frederick Schultz at the Sauk Valley Lutheran Church in rural Osakis. They raised two daughters and lived in Minneapolis. Carol worked for 18 years with Home Brand foods as a finishing cook, working with jellies and preserves.
Angeline Susanna Zimmel, 82, died April 15, 2008 at Community Memorial Home in Osakis. Angeline was born May 15, 1925 in Spruce Hill Township, Douglas County, to Alexander and Stefanie (Sommerauer) Zimmel. She attended country school at District 92 through the 8th grade. Angie worked on the family farm her whole life, working alongside her parents and her brothers. After her parents and brother Ernest's death, Angie and her brother, Ray, ran the farm until Ray's death in 2000.

Harry "Pat the Barber" McLain, age 79, Osakis, passed away on Thursday, June 6 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis. Robert "Bob" Ketelle, age 84 of Osakis, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
