Lou Jean Hillyer Streed, 69, died March 21, 2009 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Lou Jean was born August 18, 1939 in Brookings and lived in Hendricks for most of her childhood. Her dark brown eyes were always filled with mischief. She graduated from high school in Bloomington. She lived for a number of years in Bloomington, Richfield and Burnsville before finally settling in Alexandria in 1973. She worked for 3M Coated Abrasive Division. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1981 and fought it valiantly, never letting it get the best of her.
Ruth Marie Ernestine Hass, 86, died March 21, 2009 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria after a battle with pneumonia. Ruth was born September 11, 1922 on the family farm in Leaf Valley Township. She was the first child of six born to Henry and Sophia (Woessner) Wussow. She was baptized on October 8, 1922 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley by Pastor Kleweno. On July 5, 1936 she was confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church by Pastor H.L. Sprengler.
Margaret Merle Pikop, 88, Alexandria, died unexpectedly March 21, 2009 at her home in her sleep. Margaret was born September 5, 1920 in Morris. She attended grade school and graduated from Morris High School on June 13, 1938. Margaret met Donald Pikop in Elbow Lake. They were united in marriage on March 13, 1941, and had two children, Donn and Sharon. The couple farmed in Elbow Lake Township until 1981. Upon retirement, they built a home on Ten Mile Lake near Dalton. They enjoyed retirement life with trips to Arizona, Florida, Norway and England.
Beth Marie Lieffort, 54, Alexandria, died March 13, 2009. Beth was born in Glenwood on January 25, 1953 at 9:35 p.m. to William "Bill," P. Blair, and Delores "Dell." Ann Edmunds-Blair. Bill and Dell hoped for children in the early years of their marriage and found great joy in Beth, their only. Beth learned to love pets in her parents' home. Horses were a big part of her youth, beginning with Midnight and followed by Stormy, who she rode until she was 18. An impressive group of dogs accompanied her life, including Cookie, Taffy, Pat, Drellie, Meera, and the ever-present Tammy.
Evan Andrew Bumgarner, infant son of Sean and Monica Bumgarner of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. He was born March 10, 2009 in Little Rock. Services were held Friday, March 20 at Community Bible Church in Fort Smith with the Rev. Dr. Ed Saucier officiating.
Following many years of health problems, Barbara Fay Anderson, 74, Tioga, North Dakota, went home to Heaven on March 18, 2009 at the Tioga Medical Center. She had lived a life of faith, accepting the challenges of this life and enjoying its many blessings. Barbara was born July 14, 1934 in Fergus Falls to Harold and Florence (Foslien) Hanson and was baptized at East Moe Lutheran Church in Garfield. When she was 3 years old, her mother died suddenly and Barbara spent the next several years living with various family members until her father married Arvie Bylund.
Marshall Strand Dainsberg, 89, died March 18, 2009. Marshall was born December 3, 1919 in Delano to Ole and Minnie Dainsberg. In 1933, Ole got sick and later died in 1936. In 1933, Marshall left school during his freshman year of high school to help his mother provide for the family.
Florence McClintock, 104, Alexandria, died March 19, 2009 at Knute Nelson. Florence was born February 11, 1905 in Brandon to Joseph J. and Mary (Butula) Lorsung. Florence was the postmaster at the Brandon Post Office for 19 years in the 1930s and early 1940s. After moving to Seattle, Washington she worked at Boeing Aircraft during World War II. Florence married Fred L. McClintock at St. James Cathedral in Seattle on October 3, 1947. They later moved to Sacramento, California where Florence was employed with the California Department of Motor Vehicles from 1964 to 1973.
Glenn Muzik, 84, Alexandria, died of complications of Parkinson's disease on March 18, 2009 at Bethany Home. Glenn was born June 13, 1924 in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, to Louis and Helen (Carter) Muzik. He attended District #13 grade school and after graduation he began working on the farm where he was born. On October 22, 1951, Glenn was united in marriage to Arlene Botzet of Carlos at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River.
Donna Loveland, 59onna Loveland, 59, Osakis, died March 14, 2009. Donna was born August 8, 1949 in Graceville to James and Theresa (Guenther) Whelan. Donna was raised in Alexandria, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967. Donna worked at various jobs following her schooling. She was a hard worker and she made a special effort to educate herself about the business world. She worked as a purchasing manager. In 2005 Donna retired from Empi, Inc., a medical supply company. Donna loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed going fishing and watching the birds.
