GIRLS' SOCCER St. Louis Park 1, Alexandria 0 The Alexandria girls' soccer team tested itself against St. Louis Park right off the bat this season and gave the Orioles a good game before falling 1-0 on Thursday night. Senior goaltender Sarah Bruzek had a good game as St. Louis Park scored just the one goal, but the Alexandria offense couldn't find the back of the net in the season opener. The Cardinals, who are coming off a state tournament appearance in 2012, will open the home portion of their schedule at Lincoln Field as Detroit Lakes comes to town for a 1 p.m. start. The popular comedy duo, Tina and Lena, has been invited to co-anchor the 20th anniversary celebration of Garage Logic, a KSTP radio program hosted by Joe Soucheray. The program will air from the State Fair this Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. and can also be heard on ESPN 1500. When he invited them on the program, Soucheray told the duo, Sue Edwards of Alexandria and Annette Olsen of Glenwood, that they were one of his favorite guests at the State Fair over the years.
Soderholm Oral Surgery and Implants, a specialty practice of dentistry owned by Andrew Soderholm, D.D.S., opened its doors in Alexandria at the end of July. Its practice specializes in the surgical care of the maxillofacial region and encompasses routine to complex dental extractions, impacted wisdom teeth and canines, the placement of dental implants to restore missing teeth, oral pathology, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, reconstructive jaw surgery and facial trauma. The congregation of Living Word Lutheran Church invites the public to attend worship and a community open house on Sunday, August 25 at the church, 1722 16th Avenue East, Alexandria. Worship will begin at 9 a.m., with refreshments to follow, and the open house will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include tours of the building, information about the church and fellowship.

Zion Lutheran School in Alexandria will host its second annual golf tournament on Thursday, August 29 at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., with golf starting at 12:30 p.m. Door prizes and dinner are at 5 p.m. Alex Motors and Chevrolet are sponsoring the Hole-in-One with a new car as the prize. Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Nelson has been undergoing some improvements recently. The church has been led by Pastor Jeremy Pedersen since September 2012. Pederson also serves at Our Saviour's sister parish, Fahlun Lutheran Church. Pedersen is from Elk Horn, Iowa. After obtaining a bachelor of arts from Wartburg College, he volunteered at a church camp in England through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Young Adults in Global Mission program. He then attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul and served a congregation in Osceola, Nebraska. He was ordained in 2011.
Bremer Bank recently appointed Brent Iserman to president and chief executive officer of the Alexandria Charter, effective September 1. Iserman, currently executive vice president and regional manager for Bremer Bank Twin Cities Charter, will move to Alexandria from Minneapolis. He will assume responsibilities from David Kjos, who announced his retirement in May.
