DUNN TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Lake Region Electric Cooperative has axed a proposed wind turbine-solar power array in Dunn Township, near Pelican Lake. "We have cancelled the community based renewable project, which was a wind/solar hybrid project," Lake Region CEO Tim Thompson said in an email. "The project was being developed by Juhl Energy and we would purchase the energy from the project. Based on the feedback from our members, our board of directors decided it was best to not proceed."

Michael Erwin Dahl, 42, faces three charges of mistreatment-torture of animals. A jury trial set for Sept. 19 was canceled, and the plea hearing was set up in its place.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A Detroit Lakes man is accused of body slamming a 14-week-old puppy three or four times and breaking its leg after it defecated in the house. Brandon Scott Hesse Hamilton, 32, has been charged in Becker County District court with gross misdemeanor cruelty to an animal. According to court records, shortly before noon on Thursday, Aug. 24, a Detroit Lakes police officer was called to Hesse Hamilton's house on Gary Avenue to check on the status of a dog that he had allegedly badly beaten.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn - Becker County is under a cyber attack that has taken down its website, disabled its printers and is now slowly corrupting its entire IT network, according to Becker County Administrator Jack Ingstad. "Apparently we got the ransom request from whoever's doing it to pay them off," he said. No dollar amount has been demanded yet, and the county likely won't have to pay to save its files because it has secure, uncontaminated backup data saved from the night before, he said.
