Lois M. Sewell died at her home of recurrent breast cancer on Jan. 19, 2009. She was born in Morris on Sept. 12, 1941, the fifth of eight children born to John George Maughan and Eunice (Parsons) Maughan. Her great-grandfather, William Lee Colyer, was one of the early settlers of Stevens County. She graduated as co-valedictorian from Morris High School in 1959. Lois was awarded a Charles Kettering scholarship to Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio from which she graduated magna cum laude. In 1963 she married Jerry McCune. They moved to Bloomington, Ind. to attend graduate school.
Funeral services for John DeGier of Hancock, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Hancock. Reverend Harrison Newhouse will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery near Hancock. John DeGier, son of John Sr. and Maartje (DeJong) DeGier, was born Aug. 10, 1909 in Haarlememeer, Holland.
Tilford Martin "Pat" Olson passed peacefully into eternal life on Jan. 17, 2009 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Pat was born in Glenwood. on Sept. 21, 1919 to Fred T. and Alma (Mickelson) Olson. Pat was an infant when the family moved to Cyrus. He graduated from Cyrus High School in 1937 and was proud to say that he, his wife Rachel and their three children all graduated from Cyrus High School. Pat also attended the West Central School of Agricultural in Morris.
Funeral services for Otto Schaefer of Hancock, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church near Morris. The Apostolic Christian Church Ministers will be officiating. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will be providing the music. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Otto Schaefer, son of Henry and Caroline (Joos) Schaefer, was born Jan. 14, 1916 at Hancock.
Funeral services for George Steve Kill of Morris will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 6:15 and a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. George Steve Kill died on Jan. 12, 2009 at the age of 87 after a brief illness. He was the son of William John Kill and Josephine (Majerus) Kill.
Dawn Goldenstein, age 43 of Isanti, lost her battle with cancer peacefully in her home on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. Dawn Marie Goldenstein was born March 31, 1965 in Minneapolis to Clinton and Irene Goldenstein. In 1972 her family moved to Isanti. Dawn graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1983.
Funeral services for Milton Horgen of Morris will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Ali Boomershine will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Deb Mahoney will serve as pianist for the service, with Chuck Grussing, Sharon Martin and John Kleinwolterink providing special music. Milton James Horgen was born to Albert and Gina (Livgard) Horgen on July 21, 1922, at home in Yellow Medicine County near Clarkfield, Minnesota.
Funeral services for Mae Waller of Morris will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, MN. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Morris, MN Eileen Mae Corcoran, daughter of Timothy and Charlotte (Cunningham) Corcoran, was born February 12, 1912 in Rolfe, Iowa, where she was baptized on February 26, 1912 by J.M. Mallinger. Mae grew up in Donnelly, where she received her schooling.
Dr. William Marcus Trygstad passed away on January 12, 2009 at the Augustana Care Center, Hastings, MN at age 91. Bill was born in Fort Dauphin, Madagascar on December 19, 1917 to Reverend William and Martha (nee Haaland) Trygstad who served as Lutheran missionaries there for many years and was raised in Madagascar, Bemidji, Minnesota and White Sulfur Springs, Montana. He enlisted in the US Navy in December, 1941 and served aboard the mine sweeper USS Spectacle as a Pharmacist's Mate. He was honored to be of service to his country for six years. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Vinger Cemetery in Donnelly. Perry John Anderson was born June 15, 1927, son of Edwin August Anderson and Madge Irene Clark of rural Donnelly. In 1951, he married Muriel Ardell Polzen from Winfred, S.D.
