The Minnewaska boys' golf team laid claim to the combined West Central Conference championship, a combination of the past North and South conferences and includes 10 teams. The Lakers were nine points ahead of second place Melrose in the final league standings. Brett Buckingham, a freshman, was the conference's individual runner-up, just three strokes behind Melrose senior Wesly Dickhaus. Laker eighth grader Esten Stensrud also earned All-conference honors. Alexandria's doubles team of Brendan Holm and Mathias Burban reached the second round of the Section 8AA-North individual tournament Thursday before falling, ending the season for the Cardinals. The Minnewaska girls are one step closer to returning to the State Class AA golf meet, cruising to an 80-stroke victory in Sub-Section 5AA-North tournament in Benson Thursday and moving on to the section final tomorrow at Eagle Creek in Willmar. Three Osakis golfers will advance to the Section 5A golf meet at Benson today, Wednesday after finishing in the top seven of those not on a team already advancing. A medalist round of 41 by Peyton Garcia lifted the Silverstreak girls' golf team past Maple Lake in Central Minnesota Conference action Tuesday and earned Osakis another conference crown. It is the fourth consecutive title for the Silverstreaks, who have not lost the CMC championship since joining. Annalise Savageau earned the overall conference medalist title, with Garcia, Katelyn Foster and Ariel Chalmers joining her on the All-Conference list.
