This preliminary architectural rendering from Ringdahl Architects shows what an expanded Habitat for Humanity facility, with expanded ReStore retail and warehouse space, could look like. Phase I of the project, which includes the parking lot and new store entrance, are expected to be completed in 2017.

At Wednesday’s event, Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County’s founder, David Anderson, shared this photo of the first planning meeting to establish a local Habitat affiliate. The organization grew from the ideas of these two men, (left to right) Bob Loucks and David Anderson, to having provided affordable housing with 45 families locally and 54 worldwide since it became incorporated in 1997. In 2012, Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) participated in Habitat for Humanity International’s National Home Builders Blitz. With local contractors, subcontractors and volunteers, HFHDC built two homes in five days. It will participate in the Blitz again this year. (Contributed)
