Patricia Johnson (left) and Wensia Johnson (right) both earned spots in the regional Junior Olympic USA_track and field championships after their performances last weekend at the state competititon. Patricia will be advancing in the long jump in the midget girls' division, while Wensia advanced in the youth girls division in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the long jump. She broke records in the 100 and the long jump.

Photos by Ryan Nilsson, Red Wing Republican Eagle Alexandria's Jamie Piepenburg (4) was edged out at the finish line by Christina Monson of Albert Lea (3) in the 1,600-meter run as she tried to defend her State Class AA title in that event. Piepenburg did win the 3,200-meter event to bring home gold as the Alexandria girls earned runner-up honors at Hamline University in St. Paul over the weekend.

West Central Area senior Beau Kashmark attempted a jump during the State Class A track and field meet at Hamline Univeristy last weekend. Kashmark was 12th in the high jump, and added a second place in the triple jump and a ninth in the long jump. Teammate Kyle Toms was 16th in the 3,200-meter run as well.

Jamie Piepenburg won both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs as the Cardinal girls won the Section 8AA track and field team championship Friday. She, along with Rosey Erickson, Karly Betterman and Brittany Ludwig, will represent Alexandria at the State Class AA track and field meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Osakis' Aimee Allen handed the baton off to Hannah Szech during the 4x200 relay. The two Silverstreak runners, along with Taylor Kraemer and Becka Sadlemyer, are one of three Osakis relays to advance to the State Class A track and field meet at Hamline.
