The 2015 Day of Caring logo was designed by Stormy Hegg, an eighth grader at Discovery Middle School. May 8 is this year’s Day of Caring, which promotes volunteerism and increases awareness of local human service agencies. (Contributed)

Professor Henrik Williams will be in Alexandria to present, “What Were the Vikings Thinking? Cracking the Runic Code.” Above, Williams is standing by the great Viking Age Memorial Stone (U 961) from Vaksala Church in Uppsala, Sweden. The stretch of Pioneer Road on the east side of Alexandria Area High School is currently marked as a 55 mph zone, but the addition of school zone signage will drop the speed limit to 40 mph during the school day.
