The Osakis volleyball team started out on a roll Tuesday night, but a 2-0 lead over Browerville-Eagle Valley disappeared and flipped into a 3-2 loss in Osakis.
“We started out strong and didn't finish strong. We need to be more consistent with maintaining our level of play,” Silverstreaks head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “We need to maintain momentum for more of the match than we did.”
Osakis opened up with 25-20 and 25-22 wins, taking a 2-0 advantage and climbing within one set of a sweep. But the Tigers stayed alive with a 25-21 win in the third set, and then they leveled the match as 25-17 winners in the fourth.
The Silverstreaks couldn’t stop the bleeding in the fifth set, and they surrendered their third straight decision with a 15-8 loss.
“We did some really good things and at times made some really timely errors,” Wessel said. “When we play together like we are capable of, it's super fun to watch. I believe that we will come back stronger and will have learned a great deal about ourselves through (Tuesday’s) match.”
Despite the loss, Laynee Hartshorn still reached double digits with 11 kills. Maddie Johanson, Jacey Larson and Tianna Stanek all finished with nine kills, and Kylie Anderson followed with eight. Elli Clasemann contributed offensively with 36 set assists and two aces, both team highs.
Defensively, Clasemann added 14 digs, which were only bested by Stanek’s 21 and Megan Peikert’s 18. Hartshorn and Larson each tallied three blocks, as well, leading Osakis to 10.5 as a team.
