Volleyball: WCA undone in 3-1 loss to Wheaton

Kaitlyn Sanstead

The West Central Area volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Wheaton-Herman-Norcross on Thursday night in Bennett.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to find holes in Wheaton’s defense and struggled to block against an aggressive offense,” Knights head coach Amy Linn said.

After a 25-18 loss in the first set, WCA came a few points shy from leveling the match and instead faltered 25-23 in the second. They avoided the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set, but the Warriors finished off the victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth.

Despite the loss, West Central Area racked up triple-digits digs by finishing with 124 as a team. Kaitlyn Sanstead had 37 of her own, while Morgan Woodle (25), Hailey Bennett (24) and Kaleigh Anderson (21) each tallied more than 20.

Offensively, Woodle finished with 15 kills, while Bennett had 18 set assists and Savannah Swenson eight.

The Knights will return to the court for the Wheaton Invite, which kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
