Volleyball: Knights falter after gritty start

The West Central Area volleyball team had momentum with a marathon win in the first set of Tuesday's matchup against New York Mills, but the Knights couldn't capitalize in a 3-1 loss in Barrett.

"In the first set, (we) did a great job of keeping NYM on their toes," WCA head coach Amy Linn said. "Unfortunately, we were unable to maintain the momentum and made way too many errors on serve receive and defense in the following sets."

West Central Area won the first set 32-30, but they didn't come close again with following losses of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-13 for the four-set final.

Morgan Woodle led the Knights with 10 kills, also adding 12 digs. Kaitlyn Sanstead and Hailey Bennett each piled up 18 digs, while Bennett added 10 set assists and six kills. Kaleigh Anderson added 12 digs and four kills, as well.
