Volleyball: Osakis breezes past LPGE

Maddie Johanson

The Osakis volleyball team got its first win of the season on Tuesday night as the Silverstreaks rolled over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in a sweep.

The Thunder challenged in the first set before Osakis put them away in a 25-20 final. The Silverstreaks cruised from there, winning 25-9 and 25-16 to move to 1-1 in duals after a season-opening tournament in Albany.

“We started out a little hesitant on defense and had some miscommunication that ended with balls landing on the floor,” Osakis head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “In the second game, we took control right from the beginning and gained momentum to carry us through the entire match. We made very few attacking mistakes and very few serving mistakes. That is crucial for us to not give away points to the other team.”

The Silverstreaks served at 97.3 percent and got a couple aces apiece from Elli Clasemann and Tianna Stanek. Maddie Johanson had a team-high nine kills, while Jacey Larson added six and Stanek finished with five. Clasemann set them up with 25 assists and Megan Peikert had a team-high 10 digs.

“We are getting much more controlled in our attacking and serving,” Wessel said. “Our serve receive also looked good, and the defense started clicking once the communication kicked in. It was a very well-rounded team effort tonight. Everyone contributed on the floor and played solid.”
