Volleyball: Osakis goes 1-3 at opening Albany Tournament
The Osakis volleyball team jumpstarted its season by heading to a competitive Albany Tournament and coming home with a 1-3 record in its four matches.
The lone win came against Braham after tallying 25-12 and 25-19 victories. The Silverstreaks ran into New London-Spicer (25-12, 25-19), Morris (25-9, 25-13) and Rocori (25-12, 25-15) and dropped all of those matches in 2-0 contests.
“Today's tournament gave us an idea what we need to work on,” Osakis head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “It was nice having matches with officials so that we can see what we may be doing wrong.
“We played some great competition today and played competitively. We seem to play with more intensity when we are playing tough teams. Even though the scoreboard didn't always show that, we were doing great things on the court. Our enthusiasm and ability to move on showed the character that these girls are made of.”
Osakis’ Tianna Stanek led the Silverstreaks at the net with 15 kills, while Maddie Johanson added 13 throughout the tournament. Elli Clasemann set them up with 45 assists and Megan Peikert had a team-high 40 digs from the back row. Stanek also led the team with six aces from the serving line.
“Our serving improved dramatically throughout the day,” Wessel said. “Our serve receive is incredible most of the time. Now, we just nail down that consistency and we are a super competitive team. Much of our team has some varsity experience, which helps a lot. Even those that don't have shown a great deal of maturity. As coaches, we are really looking forward to the chemistry that this team can make on and off the floor.”
Osakis will now turn its attention to a 7 p.m. home opener against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Tuesday.
