Girls tennis: Minnewaska rolls past YME

The Minnewaska girls tennis team dominated the day in a 7-0 sweep against Yellow Medicine East in Granite Falls on Thursday.

The Lakers won every matchup in straight sets, starting with Danielle Thorfinnson’s 6-0, 6-0 win over Whitney Tennis at No. 1 singles.

Hannah Orlowski followed in the No. 2 singles slot, beating out Emily Johnson 6-1, 6-2. Karra Hanson and Maddie Thorfinnson finished things out on the singles side with matching 6-0, 6-1 wins over Chelsea Hoernemann and Macie Sik, respectively.

On the doubles side, Greta Reichmann and Alissa Thorfinnson took care of business by beating out the No. 1 tandem of Ashley Niemeyer and Cherish Hammer 6-0, 6-0.

Annika Randt and Addy Randt topped Emilee Speh and Allie Virnig 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Aliyah Bayer and Annika Stensrud helped finish off the sweep through a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kindra Wintz and Chloe Van Sickle at No. 3.

The victory pushes Minnewaska to 13-2 on the year. The Lakers will look to keep their momentum rolling when they take on Melrose at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Glenwood.
