Boys tennis: Cardinals fall to Sartell

The Alexandria boys tennis team fell in Sartell on Tuesday night, dropping to 11-10 overall.

"Another tough loss for the Cardinals as it came down to the final two singles matches with Eli (Simonson) and JJ (Foster) both needing to win to give the Cards a win," Alexandria head coach Dave Ronning said.

Alex Jost had just won in the fourth singles competition, 6-4, 6-4. Sartell had three wins under its belt and the Cardinals had two with Jost's victory and Zach Wosepka and Hunter Croonquist grabbing a two set second-doubles win.

Both Simonson and Foster lost their first sets but rallied to win the second. Both started their third sets 0-2 and couldn't overturn the deficit.

"Although it was a tough loss, I give both Eli and JJ a lot of credit for the efforts they showed," Ronning said. "Sartell is a good team and is solid at every spot."

The Cardinals head to Brainerd today for a 4:30 p.m. match.
