Swimming and diving: Cardinals fall in tight meet to the Storm

The Alexandria swimming and diving team fell short in its second meet of the season on Aug. 30 as Sauk Rapids-Rice won a 102-84 decision.

Alexandria's Kenna Horan, Ashtyn Molesworth, Addison Rodel and Hattie Galloway started the meet off with a win in the 200-medley relay, while the Cardinals went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle after Molesworth won it and Galloway finished second.

The Alexandria divers followed suit when Jewel Sainz won that event and Christina Palmer finished second. A Kaylee Meyer fifth-place finish in diving helped the Cardinals take the lead in the early portion of the meet, but the Storm rallied by taking the top three spots in the 500 freestyle.

The Cardinals countered with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay from Jadeya Peterson, Sidney Johnson, Galloway and Molesworth. Horan then added more team points by winning the 100 backstroke, while Anna Dokter took third. Molesworth was second in the 100 breaststroke and Sidney Johnson took third.

Things were close in the team standings until the final event when the Storm finished first and second to help secure the win.
