Boys soccer: Cardinals move to 2-0 with win over DL

The Alexandria boys soccer team is 2-0 after the first week of the season.

The Cardinals won their season opener in a 2-1 game against East Grand Forks last Thursday. Then on Saturday, they won another one-goal game as Alexandria beat Detroit Lakes 3-2.

The Cardinals led the game 2-0 before the Lakers rallied back with goals from Jackson Carlblom and Cole Metelak to tie the game at two apiece.

That just set the stage for a game-winner from Alexandria's Joseph Westlund as he scored on a header late in the second half. Jacob Siira also scored for the Cardinals to get things going in the first half before a goal on a penalty kick from JJ Foster made it 2-0. Foster and Graham Peterson both had assists in the game, as well.

Zach Wosepka got the win in net for Alexandria with four saves.
