Tennis: Streaks win two matches at Quad Invitational

The Osakis Silverstreaks girls tennis team competed in the Quad Invitational last Saturday and improved their overall record to 12-1.

The Streaks lost in a close first match against Crookston but took home two victories against Coon Rapids and Alexandria in their second and third matches of the tournament.

"It wasn't anything our girls did wrong," coach Ryan Maddock said of their only loss. "Crookston just played a great match to earn the win. It was nice to see the girls bounce right back and pick up a 6-1 win over Coon Rapids."

In the first match against Crookston, Camryn Hoffarth secured a point with a win in two sets, 6-0 and 6-4. Scherr also got a point in a close win against Elysa Christianson, 6-1, 7-6, (7-5). But Tia Dykema and Alexa Lien both lost in first and fourth singles, respectively.

Karlee Hoffarth and Shea Olson beat Amy Follette and Catherine in the first doubles. But the other two doubles teams were defeated in the second and third doubles against Crookston.

The Steaks took down Coon Rapids with four straight victories in the singles. Kiara Hensley and Dinara Dykema defeated Mya Mochinski and Jersie Schreder and Mara VanNyhuis and Kennedy George took Megan Spielbauer and Anna Sammit, 3-6, 6-2 and 10-6 in the doubles lineup. Only Kali Giesler and Karlee Hoffarth were defeated in the first singles by Emma Newton and Carly Nelson.

The Streaks final match of the day was against the Alexandria Cards. Osakis won the match, 5-2.

Tia Dykema, C. Hoffarth and Scherr were able to win straight sets in the singles. Olson was beat by Alli Prestby in a close three sets, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, (7-10).

The first two doubles teams, Giesler and Karlee Hoffarth and Hensley and D. Dykema won in straight sets. VanNyhuis and Alexa Lien were defeated by the Cards' Annie Holding and Kaylee Svee.
