Osakis baseball team awards

After a 19-4 season and a deep run in the Section 6AA Tournament, the Osakis baseball team celebrated by handing out team awards.

In 2013, Osakis finished in second place in the Class A state tournament, but changes to the playoffs in 2014 made a repeat much more difficult. The Silverstreaks moved up a class for the section playoffs but did not have the depth that some other schools did with larger enrollment numbers.

“After moving up to Class AA, our expectations of repeating a state trip were dampened, however we gave it a good run in Section 6AA and maybe exceeded some expectations a little,” head coach Shad Schmidt said. “All in all it was a successful season. Not because of the wins or the record, but it was because of the strong bonds we made as a team.”

Seniors Drew Fearing and Jordan Frederick both earned all-state honors for their efforts in the season. Fearing was named the team’s MVP, Most Dedicated and Defensive Player of the Year.

Frederick earned the Silverstreak Team Hard Hat award and also was named Prairie Conference MVP.

Lane Berberich was the Silverstreaks’ Offensive Player of the Year and also claimed multiple team records over the season. He broke the school records for stolen bases (32) and walks (21), and tied the all-time team pitching wins mark with nine – the other holder being Frederick from 2013.

Brandon Giesler was named Most Improved for 2014, Brady Berberich was Rookie of the Year and student manager Kolten Adolphsen received the Silverstreak Award.

Osakis players who were named to the CLC all-conference team were Frederick, Fearing, Lane Berberich and Michael Herringshaw.

Giesler and Hunter Scherr were both named honorable mention all-conference.
