Giese named Osakis softball MVP

The Osakis softball team wrapped up its spring season by handing out its awards where senior Amber Giese was named the Silverstreaks’ most valuable player.

Giese anchored her team on the mound this season in her first full year as the team’s primary pitcher. She went 8-5 with a 3.87 ERA in 85 innings pitched. Giese allowed 92 hits and 39 walks, while striking out 50 batters.

Senior Brooke Waldorf earned the Silverstreak Award in recognition of being a positive team player. Freshman Jordyn Rajdl rounded out the team award winners by being named the most improved player. She broke onto the varsity scene with a .491 average, five doubles, two triples and 23 RBIs this season.

Osakis had four players named to the All-Prairie Conference team. Katie Anderson, Jenna Fearing, Alecia Kaelke and Rajdl earned that honor, while Mackenzie Staloch and Morgan Silbernick were honorable-mention selections. Fearing also earned All-Section 6AA honors.

The Silverstreaks finished 11-7 this season and with a share of their eighth Prairie Conference title in program history. They set a couple school records along the way with the highest team batting average of .364 and the lowest team season strikeout total after fanning just 47 times.

They were also standouts in the classroom where Osakis earned the Minnesota Softball Coaches Association Silver Academic Award as a team. Anderson was named academic all-state, while Morgan Staloch, Rajdl, Ana Chisholm and Fearing all joined her on the Prairie Conference all-academic team.
