Osakis football dominates KMS to snap losing skid
“I’m proud of the boys’ effort tonight,” head coach Bill Infanger said. “We got back to executing across the board and the end result was positive. We are as healthy as we have been since week one and it showed tonight in our confidence and in our ability to execute on both sides of the ball. That should give us some much-needed momentum going into the playoffs."
The Silverstreaks (4-4) got off to a 20-0 lead after one quarter behind three quick touchdowns from fullback Wyatt Olson. Olson scored on a five-yard run on the team's opening possession before KMS fumbled the ball on its first play from scrimmage.
Quarterback Brandon Giesler connected with tight end Joey Kotek on the very next play that set up another Olson touchdown from the one-yard line. He added his third score of the night on the next drive from three yards out. Olson had a nose for the end zone as he punched in two more two-point conversions on top of his 56 yards on 14 carries.
Osakis continued to pile up points after taking command of things early. This time it was Trey Erie getting in on the scoring as he added touchdown runs of 14 and 24 yards in the second quarter. Erie had 73 yards on seven carries.
Giesler didn’t have to pass much with the ground game working so well, but he connected with Hunter Scherr on a three-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter. Giesler was 5-for-8 for 58 yards. Trenton Coyer added the final touchdown on the ground with a 44-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Lane Berberich didn’t score but he led the team by using his speed on both sides of the ball to disrupt the Fighting Saints (0-8). Berberich ran for 109 yards on just seven carries and added a team-high seven tackles.
The Silverstreaks, at 4-4, are looking like they will be the fifth seed in the Section 6AA playoffs that start next Tuesday. They will travel to take on the fourth seed, which is still up for grabs with Breckenridge, Pelican Rapids and Ottertail Central all playing their regular-season finale on Thursday at the Fargo Dome.
