Girls' golf: Minnewaska, Osakis first in outings
Lack of outdoor practice time this spring, as well as the wind and cold on Thursday, didn't seem to concern the Minnewaska girls' golf team, which started its regular season much like last year - setting the pace in the West Central Conference.
Ellen Stensrud and Alexis Guggisberg each earned medalist honors as the Lakers won both meets that were scheduled on two separate courses.
The Lakers opened with an impressive 31-stroke victory over Paynesville at Benson earlier in the afternoon, led by Stensrud's 4-over-par 40.
She was followed closely by Guggisberg, who was one stroke back. Ashlynn Guggisber trailed her sister by two strokes with a 43 and Jenna Janu capped things off with a 45.
They capped that performance with an even better outing at Montevideo as Guggisberg carded a 1-over-par 37 to lead the Lakers to a 37-stroke win.
Janu and Stensrud both finished with rounds of 42, while Ashlynn Guggisberg added a 43.
The Lakers are scheduled to play two meets again on Friday when they travel to Granite Falls at noon and then head to Olivia at 4 p.m.
They were to have hosted the first meet of a two-meet schedule yesterday, Tuesday, with the Minnewaska competition at noon and the Morris meet slated for 4 p.m.
