Area individuals, teams named All-State Academic
Several area teams and individuals received All-State honors for fall sports.
The Osakis Silverstreak football team earned the gold academic award in Class AA for 2009 as one of the top eight team grade point averages from around the state in their division.
The Minnewaska football team earned the silver academic award in Class AA, given to the next eight teams for the cumulative grade point average (GPA) of all members on the official home roster.
Individually, Alexandria's Ross Thompson earned All-State academic honors in Class AAAA. To be eligible, a player must be a senior varsity letterman for the current season and be a starter on either offense, defense or as a kicker.
The player must also carry a 3.0 grade-point average in an academic core curriculum in his sophomore and junior years and the first quarter of the senior year.
Parkers Prairie senior Sari Noga was named to the Class A All-State first team. Noga was the only player from the area named to any of the individual All-State teams.
Receiving the team academic gold award for 2009 were Ashby (Section 6A - 3.84 GPA), Parkers Prairie (Section 6A - 3.82 GPA) and West Central Area (Section 6A - 3.81 GPA).
Earning the team academic silver award was Alexandria (Section 8AAA - 3.67 GPA).
