Football: Nighthawks shut out Bears 40-0

The Prairie Valley football team capped off its homecoming week with a 40-0 win over Bertha-Hewitt last Friday night.

The Nighthawks were dominant on defense as they allowed just a little more than 100 yards of total offense. Tyler Schlosser and Luke Mock led the way with 14 tackles each. Quentin Uran added 12 and Dylan McCallson finished with 10.

Prairie Valley also took the ball away three times. Mock and Hunter Arnold each had an interception, while Eric Ronning recovered a fumble.

The offense countered by scoring on its first possession and never looking back. Senior quarterback Logan Riedel had three touchdown passes on the night. Arnold, Schlosser and Alec Alberts caught one score apiece as Riedel was 8-for-10 passing for 146 yards. Arnold also threw for a touchdown to Grant Yohnke in the fourth quarter.

Schlosser and Mock led a balanced backfield for the Nighthawks. Schlosser ran for 78 yards and Mock scored two touchdowns on 67 yards. Both had 11 carries.

"The team played inspired football for the entire night," head coach John Sieling said. "You always wonder if the players will be focused during homecoming week. The Nighthawks answered that question and ended the week with an exclamation point."

Prairie Valley moved to 4-1 with the win. The Nighthawks will have a big test this week though as they go on the road to take on Wheaton-Herman-Norcross. The Warriors are 5-1 with their only loss coming against undefeated Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley. Prairie valley will get a shot at CGB to wrap up the regular season next Wednesday night.

"These last two games will challenge this team to be at their best," Sieling said.
