Alexandria’s Dan Loken was down to the last day in the firearms season with nothing to show for his efforts in sticking it out in the woods through more than a week.

0 Talk about it

Loken hadn’t seen much all season, but he entered his stand this past Sunday morning to give it one more try. It wasn’t long before a big buck came out with his nose to the ground in search of a doe at around 7:30 a.m.

Loken’s one shot with his .270 from about 50 yards was on the mark. It was a deer he was hoping to see after doing a little scouting earlier in the year.

“This last spring, I found a huge shed, one side only, from a deer that I’d never seen but now knew existed,” he said. “That’s the deer that I shot. The shed matches the antlers on this deer.”

The buck was 13 points and weighed 200 pounds dressed out.
