Murder charges reinstated in 2013 stabbing

WCA returns two all-conference golfers

The West Central Area girls’ golf team will need to replace three graduated seniors this year if it wants to build on a fourth place finish in the Heart O’Lakes Conference from last year.

The Knights lost letter winners McKenzie Hunter, Morgan Grove and Katie Larkin from last season, but among the returning golfers are all-conference award recipient seniors Marissa Hayward and Tiffany Boysen. Junior Hailey Kreft is also back as a letter winner for the Knights, and head coach Kari Kreft expects these three veterans to help lead the charge this season.

“We look to them to be our leaders in both scoring and motivating our new players,” Kreft said. “Marissa and Tiffany know what it feels like to be in those number one and number two scoring positions, and we are expecting a lot from them.”

Danna Sabolik is a newcomer to the team this season that is expected to contribute. She will join the team after a few years off from competition.

“She is not new to the game, but it has been a few years since she has played competitively,” Kreft said. “She is a strong athlete, has a drive to succeed and great leadership skills.”

Other golfers who could help fill out the roster are returning golfer Shannon Flake and newcomers Emily Courrier, Shannon Kuntz, Marissa Ottinger and Kate Wrolson.

Last year the Knights golf team took fourth in the Heart O’ Lakes conference and fourth in Section 5A. This year, Kreft expects Perham and Pelican Rapids to be among the top teams in the conference, and Ortonville and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa should be the top teams in Section 5A.
