Alexandria Area High School graduate Blake Bloedorn led his Minnesota State Community and Technical College men's golf team to the Region XIII and Minnesota College Athletic Conference championships on Oct. 1-2.

The Fergus Falls-based Spartans won the tournament with a two-day total of 613 (308-305) at The Legend Golf Course in Biwabik, Minn., just edging out Southwest Tech (Wis.) by two strokes. The MCAC and Region XIII championships are the eighth in a row for MSCTC.

Bloedorn, a 2016 AAHS grad and co-captain during his time with the Cardinals, carded a 156 (76-80) on the par-72 course for a two-day total of 12-over par. In the final pairing of day two, Bloedorn made par on No. 18 to clinch the Spartans' championship.

"Blake was huge for us in this tournament," MSCTC head coach Jason Retzlaff said. "He played very well on day one with one of the best scores of the day. On the second day, he was extremely clutch for us."

The victory qualified the Spartans for the NJCAA Division III National Golf Tournament on June 4-7, 2019, at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, N.Y. The trip will be the second straight for Bloedorn and MSCTC, who finished fourth in the nation last June.

"I'm thrilled that he and our team will get an opportunity to compete in the national tournament in June," Retzlaff said. "He has been a pleasure to have in our golf program on and off the golf course."
