Boys cross country: Struck, Englund to step up for Cards

The Alexandria boys cross country team will have to recover from graduation losses following an 11th-place finish at the Class AA state meet last year.

“With losing the leadership, it will be a great year to rebuild and find our new leaders,” head coach Travis Hochhalter said.

The Cardinals lose out on seven letterwinners from last season’s team, but Hochhalter pointed to seniors Noah Struck and Jack Englund as those stepping into leadership roles. Hochhalter also expects runners like Jacob Kleven and Dane Galloway to be competitive for top spots on the team.

Sophomores Bryce Kraker, Andrew Sparr, Bennett Wirth and Hayden Peterson are new prospects for the team this year, as well, which could help build depth in the program.

“The 2018 (season) will be a rebuilding year with a nice runner from each grade level,” said Hochhalter. “We have a group of runners that have put some miles on during the summer months. It will be exciting to see the result of their efforts.”
