Cross country: Nine letterwinners in B-E runners' first year
The Brandon-Evansville cross country teams finished up their very first year with an awards ceremony recognizing nine letterwinners who helped get this program started.
On the girls team, juniors Christina Kuismi and Kerryn Lund, sophomore Caitlyn Deschene and freshman Kaylee Bitzan earned letters.
Senior Alek Pikkaraine, sophomore Blake Merritt, freshmen Anakin Bosek and Nolan Bitzan and eighth grader Wes Siira earned letters on the boys team.
The girl's team honored Deschene with the Best Teammate Award and the boys voted Eli Anderson with that same honor.
The Extra Mile Award goes to the runner that the team's decided showed the most dedication throughout the year. Deschene and Bosek were given the honor.
Deschene led the Chargers varsity team at the section meet in Long Prairie this season after finishing in a time of 25:10.6. Anderson ran a time of 27:08.3 at sections, while Bosek came across in 27:22.6.
That section meet wrapped up a season that head coach Robert Bosma hopes can propel the Chargers forward in the future.
"I have been impressed many times over by the attitude, hard work and dedication by my team," Bosma said after the last race. "They embraced the responsibility of what it means to be the first ones in this sport for our school. They were a wonderful team and many of them are already talking about next year when I hope we can start to get more competitive and start to bring home some more medals and ribbons at some meets."
