B-E softball sees season end

The Brandon-Evansville softball team saw its season end with a close loss at fourth-seeded Pillager in the Section 6A South opening round on Tuesday.

The Chargers were the fifth seed in the tournament and played right with Pillager before coming up just short. Brandon-Evansville scored three runs in the first inning but couldn’t sustain that as three errors helped the Huskies win despite only three hits.

“We played a tough game and it’s never easy to swallow a close loss like this,” head coach Kasi Huschle said. “The girls played hard. It just didn’t fall our way this time. We had a hard time finding our groove offensively to get the big hits when we needed them.”

The Chargers had just four hits themselves against Pillager’s Abby Brooks. Kinsley Randt threw well in her last game in a Chargers’ uniform. All five runs allowed were unearned as she issued the three hits and three walks, while striking out five in six innings.

“In the top of the seventh we got one run back but just couldn’t bring more in,” Huschle said. “I’m proud of the way the girls fought until the end. It just wasn’t our game to win tonight. We will greatly miss all of our seniors - Kinsley, Megan [Kokett], Sara [Roers] and Hannah [Gebhardt] next year and are very proud of all that they have accomplished on and off the field. They are a great group of girls who were excellent softball players and helped our program improve every day.”

The Chargers end their season as Pheasant Conference champions with a 9-1 league record. They were 12-8 overall.
