The Brandon-Evansville girls remained one of two teams still unbeaten in the Little Eight Conference after a road win in Underwood on Thursday night.

The Chargers trailed by one at the break but got four threes in the second half to lead to a 52-46 win at Underwood. It was the fourth win of the season for Brandon-Evansville and moved this team to 2-0 in the LEC.

“It’s always tough up in Underwood,” head coach Dick Simpson said. “We hit four threes in the second half. We were tied at 36 all, and then I think it was Elizabeth Vinson who hit a three that put us ahead. We got it up to eight and made a couple free throws.”

Vinson was one of three players in double figures as the Chargers continued to get some balanced scoring. She had 11 points. Emma Friedrich finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Megan Kokett had 18 points and five steals.

“She’s been struggling with her shot lately but she came through,” Simpson said of Kokett. “She had 14 of those [18 points] in the first half and kind of kept us in it. Then Elizabeth Vinson hit three threes in the second half. We were pretty balanced with three in double figures.”

The Chargers also forced 23 turnovers and gave up the ball just 12 times themselves. The win takes Brandon-Evansville into the Christmas break with a little momentum and a 4-2 record overall. The Chargers are 2-0 in the LEC. Battle Lake is the only team in front of them at 3-0.
