Close victory in Hancock moves B-E to 3-0

The Brandon-Evansville football team stayed undefeated on the season by pulling out another close victory, this time 21-20 against Hancock on the road last Friday.

The Chargers rushed for two touchdowns against Hancock and added a third with their special teams. Quarterback Tom Bosek scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter and James Huisman also rushed five yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

For the second straight game, Huisman also scored on a kickoff return, this time for 80 yards in the second quarter.

The Chargers were able to win the game despite giving up 347 yards of total offense to Hancock. Most of those yards were gained through the air, as Hancock quarterback Taylor Holleman completed 22 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

"Today was a frustrating day for our defense," head coach Tim Pattrin said. "Holleman is a heck of a quarterback, and every time we thought we had him taken care of he got just enough to continue drives."

With both teams scoring three touchdowns in the game, the difference came on two missed extra point attempts for Hancock.

The Chargers once again moved the ball primarily on the ground, with 175 of their 199 yards of total offense coming through the run. Huisman led the attack as he rushed for 104 yards on 17 attempts.

While moving the ball for more than 300 yards on the night, Hancock's time of possession was more than twice that of the Chargers.

"Our offense moved the ball well; we just didn't get the ball," Pattrin said. "I'm proud of our boys for gutting this one out and doing enough to get the W."

Quarterback Tom Bosek completed two passes for 24 yards in the game, with the longest reception going to Brandon Christianson for 20 yards. Cody Lund led the Chargers' defense in the game with 13 tackles.

The Chargers will gear up for their homecoming game this week against Ortonville. The kickoff is scheduled for Friday night in Brandon at 7 p.m.
