Kickoff return gives B-E victory over Ashby

The Brandon-Evansville football team came out on top in a back-and-forth game against area rivals Ashby thanks to a late fourth-quarter touchdown on a kickoff return by James Huisman.

At one point in the first quarter, the Arrows held a 14-point lead over the Chargers. But touchdowns by Cody Lund and Cody Walker helped even the score by halftime.

After a scoreless third, the Chargers took a 20-14 lead thanks to another Walker touchdown in the fourth quarter. But Ashby responded, scoring a touchdown and completing a two-point conversion to take a 22-20 lead. With just two minutes remaining in regulation, Huisman returned the following Ashby kickoff for a touchdown to take a 26-22 lead.

"This is a great one," head coach Tim Pattrin said. "The guys have been working hard, they have shown the character that we've been talking about. This is a big step for the program to win this rivalry game."

From there, the Chargers defense forced a turnover on downs to seal the victory.
