Brandon-Evansville Legion baseball starts 4-0

Brandon-Evansville Legion Post 188 got a hot start to its season with four straight wins recently, defeating Hancock and Clinton before taking both halves of a doubleheader from Glenwood/Lowry.

Billie Juul got the win over Hancock 3-2 as he went five complete innings, giving up just four hits and keeping Hancock scoreless.

Tom Bosek finished the final two frames, allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Post 188 edged out Clinton 5-4 and used a good start by Zach Johnson on the mound to give them the advantage.

Johnson went five frames, allowing five hits and one earned run before Reed Hanson of Ashby pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief, giving up three hits and three earned runs.

Tom Bosek closed out the final one-third of an inning to earn the save.

"Hanson is playing with the B-E team, along with Blake Ohren and Gage Olson from Ashby, due to their town not having a Legion program this year," said head coach Trent Hintermeister.

Brandon-Evansville hosted Glenwood/Lowry in a doubleheader, winning both games.

Nolan Bartholomew got the start in game one, going six and a third frames, giving up four hits and walking five for five runs, while striking out 11.

Bosek pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit.

Brandon-Evansville, which trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, got a leadoff walk from James Huisman, followed by another walk to Zach Carlson.

Both runners came home to tie the game on a hit by Juul.

"Later that inning, Juul scored the winning run when Brandon Christianson hit a hard ball to the second baseman, who couldn't handle it in time to get the out," said Hintermeister of Brandon-Evansville's 6-5 win.

Game two saw Blake Satterlie on the mound.

"Satterlie was lights out, throwing a complete seven innings, giving up only three hits in his first career complete game shutout," said Hintermeister.

Juul led the offense in the doubleheader with five singles in a 5-for-8 performance, scoring four of his five times on base.

"B-E Post 188 has a 17-man roster and I couldn't be more excited about that," said the coach. "We have added three very solid baseball players in Reed Hanson, Blake Ohren and Gage Olson from Ashby.

"These three players will really help our already talented team hopefully contend with Osakis, Morris and the other teams in our district."

The senior players on the team include Juul, Craig Campbell, Carlson, Satterlie, Bartholomew and J.T. Huisman. Cody Lund is the only junior and sophomores Christianson, Johnson, Bosek, Christian McGaffey, Pat McGaffey, Cody Walker and James Huisman round out the team.

Brandon-Evansville is coached by Hintermeister, who is assisted by Tim Christianson and Jeff Bartholomew.
