Baseball: Bluedogs cruise to win

The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs have yet to be tested through two games this season as they followed a 15-0 win in the opener with a 13-0 win over Long Prairie this past Sunday.

Collin Modahl took a perfect game into the sixth inning before a leadoff walk broke it up. Long Prairie followed with a soft base hit before Modahl shut the door and finished his day with six innings pitched and seven strikeouts. Ryan Hendrickson came in for the seventh and blew away the side with three strikeouts.

Monte Hinzmann and Dan Schaffer paced a Bluedogs' lineup that collected hits from 10 different guys for the second straight game. They had 19 hits in all as Hinzmann finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Schaffer went 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Josh Meissner also had a big game with three hits, including two doubles, to go along with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bluedogs broke a 6-0 game wide open with seven runs in the sixth inning. Hinzmann had a two-RBI double in the inning and Schaffer and Meissner added RBI singles.

Brandon-Evansville will have the weekend off before welcoming Sauk Centre to Evansville on May 26. The Bluedogs will then play a Memorial Day game on May 27 when Kensington comes to Evansville. Both games are set to start at 2 p.m.
