Area softball results

The Ashby softball team captured the Pheasant Conference title by making quick work of Hillcrest in a 12-2 win in five innings on Tuesday night.

Haley Ness was back on the rubber as she earned the win by striking out 13 Hillcrest batters. She was also perfect from the plate, adding two hits and walking twice. Meg Roley added a hit and two RBIs to help wrap up the league title for the Arrows with a 9-1 record.

"Winning the conference has been a total team effort this entire season," head coach Joey Andreasen said. "Each game when the girls took the field, they were determined, prepared and enthusiastic. They played hard all season."

Ashby saw its three-game winning streak come to an end in a 5-4 loss to Eagle Valley on Monday night.

Paige Nelson made her first varsity start and gave her team a chance by working all seven innings. She scattered six hits, while allowing the five runs.

Hayley Barry led the Ashby offense with two hits and three RBIs. Ness went 2-for-4, as well.

Be doubleheader

Brandon-Evansville split a doubleheader with Ortonville on Monday, taking game two 9-8 after falling 5-1 in the opener.

Kati Reisenauer had three hits, including a home run, to go along with two RBIs in the Chargers' win. Kinsley Randt also went 2-for-4, while Carlie Steffenson worked a complete game to pick up the win. Steffenson allowed six earned runs on eight hits and six walks. She struck out three.

Offense was harder to come by in the opener. Brandon-Evansville scored its only run in the fourth inning as Emily Bedore touched home plate to make it a 1-1 game. Ortonville responded with four runs over the next two innings as the Trojans held on for their seventh win of the season.

"The girls played very well today," Chargers' head coach Tim Pattrin said. "The second game our bats came to life. Kati's home run really got us going in the fifth. Carlie pitched a great game and got the game-winning hit to end it."
