The doubles team needed a win in the third place match to advance to the section tournament.

After receiving a bye, Holm and Duwenhoegger started the second round of the tournament by defeating Caleb Howard and Austin Nelson of Detroit Lakes 7-6 (3) 6-0. They next lost their third round match to DJ Kraemer and Tanner Lundberg of Brainerd 6-2, 6-1, but they rebounded to pick up a win in the third place match against Sam Howard and Kole Pankow of Bemidji 7-5, 6-3 to earn a spot in the section tournament.

“Brendan and Levi did not play their best tennis today but did enough to make it to the section tourney next week,” head coach Dave Ronning said.

At first singles, Devin Crowe picked up a straight-set victory over Jordan McCall of St. Cloud Apollo 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the second round. There he faced Alex Fondrick of Detroit Lakes and lost in a three-set match.

Ronning said Crowe started out strong in the match against Fondrick but could not continue the run.

“In his second match he started great again, winning his first set 6-0,” Ronning said. “But his opponent came back with a solid plan of his own and Devin was unable to overcome and lost the next two sets.”

Mark Kallevig won a two set match against Jordan Kleist of Brainerd 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the sub-section tournament. Ronning said Kallevig did a good job of executing his game plan to come back from an early deficit.

“Mark Kallevig got a nice win in his first round of play, coming from behind in the first set 0-3,” Ronning said. “Mark came back with a nice game plan and executed it nicely to get the win.”

Kallevig’s run in the tournament ended when he fell to Brandon Schuchard of Sartell 6-2, 6-2.

The Alexandria doubles team of Payton Grandgenett and Nick Partington started their day with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Brady Crawford and Dylan Bremseth of Detroit Lakes. In the second round they fell to Matt Hokanson and Noah Holter of Bemidji.
